The Bethel men's golf team improved on their first round score at the NCCAA National Championships by 12 strokes, but it wasn't enough to boost the Pilots into contention for the final day of play. Bethel entered day two in 11th place needing to reach ninth place to make the final cut, but it was not to be as even with their improved performance, Bethel stayed in the 11th-place position, making today's round as the final round of the fall for the BC squad.
The 2014 NCCAA Golf National Championships kicked off on Monday at The Hombre Golf Course in Panama City Beach, Florida. After 18 holes, the Bethel men finished the day in 11th place out of 12 teams while the BC ladies landed in sixth out of nine teams.
In less than a week, the Bethel men's and women's golf teams will be back in action for the final time this fall at the NCCAA National Championship Tournament held in Panama City Beach, Florida. The Bethel men received their automatic bid with a win at the Battle at Blackthorn while the BC ladies received an at-large bid based on their stroke average over the different rounds they played during the 2014 fall season.
After holding an eight-stroke lead after the opening round of play at the Taylor Invitational, the Bethel men were outshot by Grand Rapids Community College by ten shots on the final day and finished in second place.
