Years after you leave this campus, when diplomas, medals and textbooks are just dust-covered memories, what will you remember about your tenure as a Pilot? More importantly, whom will you remember? There's the guy that sunk that game-winning shot, impactful professors and memorable chapel speakers. But there are other people on this campus that deserve to be remembered. One of them is Jessica Layman.

 

Layman is on the women's golf team at Bethel College. She grew up in Walton, Ind. and attended Lewis Cass High School, where she dominated the course.

The Bethel College women's golf team shot 329-337 to finish in third place at the Inaugural NCCAA Women's Golf National Championship in Panama City Beach, Fla.

The Pilots finished 24 shots behind tournament winner Dallas Baptist University who shot 325-317 for the tournament.

All-Tournament selectee, Jessica Layman, led the Pilots with a two day total of 161.  Layman's score earned her a sixth place finish.

The BC women's golf team traveled to Greeneville, Tenn. to compete with the top teams in the nation and finished seventh out of 15 teams.

The Pilots struggled in the chilly temperatures on day one and finished with 324, led by junior Sarah Henderson's 79. 

Bethel was one of just two teams to improve on day two, finishing with 319. Jessica Layman and Kaelyn Lingenfelter each shot 79, while Melanie Day added 80 and Erin DeVries shot 81.

Sparked by the play of Tournament Medalist Sarah Henderson, the Bethel women's golf team cruised to the team title at their own invitational, held Friday and Saturday at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend.

 

Henderson (80-76) took medalist honors by one stroke over her teammate Kaelyn Lingenfelter (74-83), while Erin DeVries (80-79), Melanie Day (76-85) and Megan Jakel (80-81) all earned a spot on the All Tourney team. Bethel held the top spot after day one with a team score of 317 and with a day two score of 321, outdistanced runner-up USF by 18 strokes.
