Gaylord, Mich. - Bethel women's golf team posted a 26-stroke victory in the Crusader Classic at Treetops hosted by Madonna on Monday and Tuesday, posting a 301-310 for a two day total of 611 (+35), for their fourth team victory of the fall season.
The Pilots took a 15-stroke lead after the first round of play on Monday and were never threatened as Davenport (Mich.) and St. Francis (Ind.) carded identical 316-321 rounds to finish at 637 (+61), tied for 2nd.
Jaycee Bunner (JR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) fired back-to-back rounds of 74 to post a 148 (+4) to take second individually. Katie Brooks (JR/Fishers, Ind.) followed up Monday's 74 with an 80 on Tuesday to post a 154 (+10) to finish 5th. After shooting a career-low 72 on Monday, Chloe Crusan (SO/Greenville, Wis.) finished with an 87 on Tuesday to post a 159 (+15) and tie for 15th.
Brooke Thomas (SO/Flushing, Mich.) carded scores of 81-79 to finish 160 (+16) to finish 17th while Brooke Scartozzi (FR/Schererville, Ind.) posted 87-77 to finish 164 (+20), giving all five Pilots top-20 finishes.
"What an awesome performance by this team on a very demanding course and a strong field of teams," exclaimed Head Coach Christopher Hess. "I'm so proud of the way this team picks each other up each day--somebody different steps up in a big way! Chloe was amazing on day one and then today Brooke Scartozzi picks us up with her strong play. Along the way, Jaycee, Katie, and Brooke Thomas are just playing consistent, solid golf. This is a special team and we're going to continue to work to get even better as we move forward."
The Pilots will look to ride the momentum into the weekend as they participate in the USF Invitational at Cobblestone and Cherry Hill in Kendallville and Fort Wayne, respectively, on Friday and Saturday.
