Mishawaka, Indiana – Bethel College Athletic Director Tom Visker has announced the hiring of Andrew Bowen to the position of Sports Information Director (SID).
"We are delighted that Andrew has joined our staff as our new SID," stated Visker, who is beginning his fourth year as Athletic Director. "As an alumnus of Bethel who was heavily involved with the media of the men's basketball program, Andrew brings a passion for Bethel Athletics and a good understanding of our program history. We think he is the right person to build on a program that has a good foundation and can make it even greater."
Bowen is no stranger to Bethel College, having attended and graduated from the school. During his time as a student, he was a student-manager for the men's basketball team and was one of two student-managers to ever receive the team's Mental Attitude Award. Bowen was a member of the 2006-07 NCCAA National Championship team as well as the 2008-09 team that appeared in the NAIA Fab Four.
Since 2007-08, Bowen has compiled and edited the men's basketball media guide and has had it placed in the top four seven times, including the best overall in 2008-09.
"I am so excited to join the athletic staff here at Bethel College," said Andrew. "I have held a very special place in my heart for Bethel and for athletics here for a long time. My wife and I have trusted God through this entire process to pursue this opportunity and He has continued to prove His faithfulness and His provision for our lives. We cannot wait for what is ahead."
Andrew recently served as the Youth Pastor at Calvary Assembly of God in DeMotte, Indiana for the past five years. A native of Bremen, Bowen is the grandson of former Indiana governor and Bethel College library namesake, Otis R. Bowen. Andrew and his wife Lydia, along with their son Kellan, will make their home in South Bend.
The Bethel College Pilots compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. While accumulating 3 NAIA National Championships and 32 NCCAA National Championships by 10 different athletic teams, Bethel has also produced 143 NAIA All-American honors and 309 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors over the past decade. Bethel College is an accredited Christian college offering associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees in more than 70 areas of study.
