The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced that 395 softball student-athletes have been named as 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Among those honored were Bethel's Jordan Mathison, Katie Rhoade and Rachel Najdek.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
Rhoade, a senior, is Bethel's lone repeat honoree having nabbed the award as a junior in 2016. Both Mathison and Najdek make their first appearance on the NAIA Scholar-Athlete list. Overall, the BC softball program has landed 17 scholar-athletes in the past five seasons and has recorded at least one honoree in the past nine campaigns.
