The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced that 383 baseball student-athletes have been named as 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Among those honored were Bethel's Austin Branock, Heath Brooksher and Cam Gallaway.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
From the senior trio, Branock and Brooksher each make their second appearance on the NAIA Scholar-Athlete list and both graduate with four academic honors from the NAIA and NCCAA combined. Picking up his first NAIA Scholar-Athlete nod, Gallaway finishes his career with his NAIA award and one NCCAA honor. The three honorees is the best total for the Pilots in the history of the program.
The Bethel College Pilots compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. While accumulating 3 NAIA National Championships and 32 NCCAA National Championships by 10 different athletic teams, Bethel has also produced 143 NAIA All-American honors and 309 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors over the past decade.
