Bethel volleyball is pleased to announce that Malerie Mech from Valparaiso, Indiana, has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Bethel College beginning in the fall of 2017. Along with playing volleyball for the Pilots, Mech will also be a member of the BC track and field team.
Mech, daughter of Darrell and Lisa Mech, is transferring to Bethel after playing one season of collegiate volleyball at Beloit College. The Valparaiso High School product landed three varsity letters as a member of the Vikings volleyball program and finished her career with 220 kills and a kill percentage of .222 while playing 138 sets. During her final season, Mech did the bulk of her damage as she recorded 161 of her 220 kills while adding 29 blocks, including 13 solo blocks. As a team, Valparaiso picked up two Duneland Athletic Conference Championships during Mech's tenure along with 2014 IHSAA Sectional and Regional Championships.
In her one season at Beloit, Mech tallied 93 kills (1.82 per set) and started 51 matches. She also chipped in 17 blocks.
The Bethel College Pilots compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. While accumulating 3 NAIA National Championships and 32 NCCAA National Championships by 10 different athletic teams, Bethel has also produced 143 NAIA All-American honors and 309 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors over the past decade.
