The Bethel women's basketball program is pleased to announce that Jessica Erwin from South Charleston, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Bethel College beginning in the fall of 2017.
Erwin, daughter of Ernie and Jeannine Erwin, is a four-year letterwinner for the Trojans of Southeastern High School. The 5'11" combo guard tallied 836 career points during her prep career and finished 16th on Southeastern's all-time scoring list. During her final campaign, Erwin poured in 18.4 points per an outing along with contributing 5.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals each night. For the 2016-17 season, Erwin shot the ball at a 46 percent clip, including a 40 percent efficiency from behind the three-point line.
During her time at Southeastern, the Trojans picked up a sectional and district title in 2014. Individually, Erwin was named the OHC Player of the Year and was a First Team All-OHC selection following her final season and was a two-time, All-OHC performer overall. She also landed Second Team All-Ohio honors, was a District Nine Media All-Star selection, an Ohio North-South All-Star and was an All-Clark County and All-Dayton Area honoree.
Away from the basketball court, Erwin was a letterwinner for the Trojan's volleyball program. She also serves as the 4-H President and is a member of her church youth group, SADD, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. In addition, she also volunteers as a basketball coach for National Trails.
"After a day of visiting Bethel and meeting many people on campus, I knew it was the right fit for me," noted Ewrin. "The love for Christ and each other is contagious at Bethel, and I can't wait to be a part of that. My favorite song, 'Oceans' by Hillsong United, has a verse in the chorus that says, 'Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.' When I was leaving Bethel, I walked into Sufficient Grounds for one more coffee. That song was playing in the coffee shop. Some might call it fate, but I think it was a sign from God that I had found where I belong!"
