The 2016-17 women's basketball season came to an abrupt stop on Tuesday night as the Lady Pilots fell in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament 80-63 to second-seeded Saint Francis. The loss moves BC's overall record to 10-21 and puts the final period at the end of the first full season under Coach Eric Gingerich.
After falling to USF on Saturday by just four points, BC had high hopes of pulling the upset over the Cougars in the first round of postseason play. However, the Lady Pilots fell behind early and never quite found their way back on track. In the opening possessions of the contest, USF established their long-range shooting by knocking down two triples in the first five minutes. By the time the dust settled at the quarter break, USF had already opened up a 24-10 advantage. The Lady Pilots used the second quarter to chip away and were able to close the gap to seven on multiple occasions with the latter being at the intermission. Heading into the locker room, BC trailed USF 40-33 with the Cougars having connected on seven three-point field goals on just 12 attempts (58.3 percent).
Out of the break, the game trended the wrong way quickly. The seven-point lead was doubled and then tripled within the first six minutes as the Cougars tossed in triples from all over the court. Before the dust settled in the third, USF had opened up a 25-point advantage by outscoring the Lady Pilots 23-5 in the 10-minute stretch. There was no epic comeback in the cards for the 2016-17 squad, and although they cut into the lead, they never were able to threaten the Cougars.
USF finished the night by shooting 50.8 percent from the floor, including 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from behind the arc.

Bley finished her career by recording her 16th double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards. Schrock dished out a career-high seven assists in her final outing and led the team with a pair of steals.
