The Lady Pilots fell behind early on Saturday in their meeting with the Lancers from Grace College, and the deficit was too much to overcome, ultimately falling 74-69. The loss is just the second in the last seven contests, and BC falls to 8-18 on the campaign with two weeks remaining in regular-season action. Grace moves to 14-12 overall and sits in third place overall in the league standings with a 9-5 mark.
The Lancers opened the game with a four-point run and never trailed in the ball game. In the opening stanza, BC's defense, which has been stingy during league play, gave up 44 points. Grace riffled off shots at a 65.4 percent clip during that 44-point half, putting BC in a 12-point hole at the midway point in the contest.
In the third, Bethel clamped down on the defensive end and put themselves back into contention by outscoring the guests 16-8. BC inched within two after a triple by Madison Schrock, but a late bucket allowed GC to enter the final quarter with a two-possession advantage.
While Bethel orchestrated a pair of runs to close the gap, timely stops and scores by the Lancers kept the game just out of BC's grasp.
Savannah Bley, Kamala Glenn and Schrock all finished with 16 points in the losing effort. Macie Hinen also posted an impressive stat line by leading the team with a career-high 13 rebounds coupled with a team-high four assists. Bley followed suit snagging 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, the most by any player in the Crossroads League this season.
BC will be back to work on Wednesday traveling to Spring Arbor to take on the Cougars who handed BC a four-point loss less than a month ago in Gates Gymnasium. Tip-off of that contest is slated for 7:00 p.m.
