The Lady Pilots' three-game win streak came to an abrupt end on Wednesday as the Foresters from Huntington University handed them a 78-57 loss. With the defeat, BC falls to 6-17 on the season and 3-8 in league play while HU improves to 11-11 overall and jumps up to 5-6 in interleague competition.
BC took a brief 6-5 lead on a bucket from Savannah Bley at the 7:28 mark of the first quarter, but that was the last time the Lady Pilots were on the right side of the scoreboard. Minutes later, a pair of HU free throws by Sarah Fryman put the Foresters on top for good. The hosts closed out the quarter on a 10-2 run, giving them a 17-8 edge after ten full minutes of play. In the second stanza, BC's deficit climbed to as many as 17, and at the half, Bethel went into the locker room trailing 38-26.
Out of the break, Huntington quickly rebuilt their 17-point lead, a lead that slowly and methodically ballooned to 21 thanks to a buzzer-beating triple by Miranda Palmer at the close of the third stanza. The Lady Pilots were never able to create any real threat down the stretch falling behind by as many as 27 before surrendering 78-57.
Bley, Madison Schrock and Kamala Glenn all ended the night in double figures. Bley led the way with 18. As a team, BC finished the night shooting just 37.5 percent, three percent below their season average, while Huntington was red-hot from the field firing in shots at a 57.4 percent rate, including 16-of-25 (64.0 percent) in the second stanza.
The Lady Pilots return to Mishawaka this weekend for a matchup against NAIA No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan in game one of a women's/men's doubleheader. Tip-off between the Lady Pilots and the Wildcats is slated for 1:00 p.m.
