After falling behind 13 by the midway point of Wednesday's contest against Spring Arbor, the Lady Pilots were able to regroup and take a two-point lead late in the fourth quarter. However, BC's comeback efforts came up short, and the guests earned a 56-52 victory.
The Lady Pilots were outscored by seven and six points in the first and second quarters respectively and had their work cut out for them in the final 20 minutes of play. Still trailing by double digits with just over 12 minutes to play, BC made their move.
The Lady Pilots narrowed the gap to eight by the quarter break. Madison Schrock opened up the fourth quarter with her third triple of the night. Back-to-back buckets from Macie Hinen and Kaitlin Elsasser were then netted to get back within one. At the 4:32 mark, a three-point bucket by Kamala Glenn gave Bethel their first lead of the night since the early minutes of the match. In the final minutes, the two teams traded the lead and played into four ties with the Cougars' offense being fueled by a perfect 10-of-10 performance from the free-throw line.
Trailing by four, Savannah Bley snagged an offensive board and converted on the putback all while drawing a foul on her SAU defender. Bley was unable to convert, but the rebound was tracked down by Schrock, giving BC one last look. However, that final shot missed the mark, and a pair of free throws then closed the contest with a four-point spread.
Bley led BC with yet another double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Schrock was the only other Lady Pilot to land in double figures with 11.
Bethel makes the longest road trip of the league season on Saturday as they head to Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The BC ladies are slated to tip off against MVNU at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by the NAIA DII Men's Basketball Game of the Week between (9) Bethel and (RV) Mount Vernon.
