For the second time this week, the Lady Pilots struggled to keep pace with a national powerhouse. On Saturday, it was NAIA No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan who got the better of BC and handed them a 56-32 loss, which is their sixth straight blemish on their Crossroads League record. With the win, IWU remains the only team with an undefeated league record and improves to 13-5 overall.
Bethel scored the first four points of the contest but ended up on the wrong end of a 13-3 run, which put them in a six-point hole with just over three minutes to play in the opening stanza. The two teams traded three-point field goals down the stretch, allowing IWU to hold on to their six-point cushion at the period break.
The hosts quickly took control of the game in the opening minutes of the second period. The stingy IWU defense held BC to just three points in the 10-minute period while netting 14 of their own, allowing them to stretch their halftime advantage to 17.
More of the same ensued after the intermission. IWU's lead slowly grew to 25 by the end of the third quarter. BC found themselves down by as many as 30 before closing the ballgame on an 8-2 run, which led to the final 24-point spread.
BC was led by Savannah Bley's 12 points and six rebounds. Bley was the lone Lady Pilot to reach double figures while IWU had three players reach the double-digit plateau and were led by the Crossroads League Preseason Player of the Year, Kelsey Key, who netted a game-high 21 points.
Bethel will be back at home this week for the first time in 2017 to host Spring Arbor University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
