A mid-first half surge by the Lady Lancers of Grace College was enough to down the Lady Pilots in their third Crossroads League game of the season 68-60. After building a three-point lead six minutes into the contest, the Lady Pilots found themselves on the wrong end of a 19-10 run over the next six minutes that ultimately made the difference in the contest. BC falls to 0-11 on the season while Grace improves to 7-5.
In an explosive offensive first quarter, the two squads combined for 44 points. The hot shooting continued into the second stanza, and at the halftime buzzer, the Lancers owned a 42-34 edge while connecting on a whopping 56.0 percent of their attempts from the field. The Lady Pilots hung tough on the offensive end thanks to senior Madison Schrock who poured in 16 of her team-high 19 points in the first 20 minutes.
After the intermission, the Lady Pilots cut into the lead thanks to back-to-back buckets from Macie Hinen and Kaitlin Elsasser, but for every push BC made, Grace had an answer. A late bucket by Danielle Davis allowed Bethel to win the period 10-8, but a six-point deficit still faced the Lady Pilots heading into the final quarter.
BC gained little ground in their uphill battle until Hinen and Elsasser scored consecutive buckets with 1:27 to play to inch within a single possession for the first time since the first quarter. Grace used the next two possessions to build their lead right back up to seven. Over the final 40 seconds, GC was a perfect four-of-four from the charity stripe, keeping the Lady Pilots at bay.
Bethel heads back home for their next league matchup, which features last year's national semifinalists the Maple Leafs from Goshen College. That contest is set for Wednesday, December 7th at 6:00 p.m. The Bethel men will host the Leafs following the women's game at approximately 8:00 p.m.
