The Bethel College men's tennis team traveled to Adrian, Michigan on Thursday afternoon to meet Adrian College in a non-conference match-up and were dealt a 9-0 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.
The match began outdoors with single where the Pilots got off to a good start on several courts. However, rain forced play to be moved indoors and from there, the home team got the best of the Pilots. Still, several matches were closely contested. At number six singles, Bethel's Matt Kempf won his first set, but then lost in a third set tie-breaker. And in doubles, the Pilot number two team of Trent Stout and Luke Prude rallied from a 4-7 deficit only to fall short by the score of 9-7. Likewise, the Bethel number three tandem of Caleb Hadden and Mason Heller played well, but came up just short by the score of 8-6.
"We started today's match pretty well on several courts," stated Bethel coach, John Natali. "But then the rains came and we had to move indoors where our guys had a very difficult time adjusting to playing on a much faster surface. Still, we have to give Adrian all the credit as they are a strong team and they played very well. Once again, our guys battled to the end and competed on every court."
The Bethel men will be back in action on Saturday, September 21st when they will travel to Upland, Indiana to meet Taylor University in a Crossroads League match set to begin at 2:00pm.
