The 2013-14 Bethel College Pilots will kick-off their fall season on August 27th when they will travel to Spring Arbor, Michigan to take on the defending 2012 Crossroads League Tournament champion Cougars.
The Bethel Pilots were an extremely young team in 2012-13 and finished the season with a 3-14 mark. While the record fell far short of the team's goals, the effort was excellent, and the experience gained from playing some very good competition resulted in great improvement for the Pilots by seasons' end. And with the entire roster returning, along with the addition of five talented freshmen, the Pilots are looking for better things in 2013-14.
Leading the way will be seniors Rafael Barreto and Caleb Hadden. Both played significant roles in 2012-13 and will be counted on to lend good leadership for the squad. Juniors Trent Stout, Luke Hoffman, Gavin McGrath and Kevin Kirkland will bring another year's experience to the courts this season and are ready for the challenges ahead. Sophomores Ethan Turner, Mason Heller and Kyle Hanby all made considerable strides in their spring matches and will bring renewed confidence back to courts this fall. And freshmen Luke Prude, Brad Foster, Nick Kindig, Matt Kempf and Bobby Eberle will provide the Pilots with more quality depth than the team has had in several years.
"We realized that 2012-13 would be a re-building season for us," stated Bethel coach, John Natali. "After all, we had just graduated our entire line-up from the previous year. But the team improved greatly from start to finish and now, with the addition of a very fine freshmen class, we believe we will be far more competitive this fall. The Crossroads League is extremely tough from top to bottom, but our team is ready to challenge more than ever."
