The Bethel College men's tennis team will open their 2013 spring season with a home match on Wednesday, April 3rd when they will host the Goshen College Maple Leafs beginning at 4:00pm on the Bethel courts. The Pilots are scheduled to play a total of five matches this spring looking to continue the progress made during the fall campaign.
A young and inexperienced group of Pilots struggled to a 3-11 mark in the fall, but grew from the experience and improvement was made from start to finish. Now, the goal this spring is to continue that growth and development that will lead the team into the 2013-14 campaign next fall.
Ethan Turner, Rafael Barreto and Trent Stout will be counted on to hold down the top three singles positions once again. Caleb Hadden hopes to return to full strength after sustaining a wrist injury in the fall. Freshmen Mason Heller and Kyle Hanby have shown solid play and great improvement from the fall and will be looking to build upon that foundation this spring. And Gavin McGrath will lend good support primarily in doubles play this spring.
"It's no secret that we didn't win as many matches in the fall as we would have liked," stated coach, John Natali. "But everyone worked extremely hard to get better and that was evident as the fall season progressed and came to an end in October. Now, we want to use these spring matches to continue that improvement against some challenging opponents."
