The 2012 Bethel College women's tennis team enjoyed an outstanding fall season. The Lady Pilots finished the campaign with an 11-4 mark, good for 3rd place in the Crossroads League. In addition, the eleven wins was a school record for victories in the fall portion of their schedule. After starting off with a 4-3 record, the Lady Pilots won six matches in a row, including key victories over Grace College, Taylor University, Huntington University, and the University of St. Francis before falling to Marian University in the league tournament semifinals.
The successful season was truly a team effort. Notable achievements for the Lady Pilots included Molly O'Grady racking up an 11-3 mark at the number one singles position, Bethany Blodgett turning in a stellar season at number three with a mark of 10-4, and Whitney Neuenschwander registering an outstanding record of 10-3 at number five.
Molly and Whitney teamed up and went 9-5 at number one doubles while Bethany and Morgan McFarren were exceptional at number two with an 11-4 mark.
"Our ladies had a great fall season," stated coach, John Natali. "Molly, Whitney, Bethany and Morgan led the way with their play in both singles and doubles. And we received solid contributions from Melissa Ramer, Taryn Johnson, Jill Focht and Samantha Lukas as well. We are definitely looking forward to the spring season with this group as they will continue to push forward and hopefully earn another trip to NCCAA Nationals in Mobile, Alabama."
At the conclusion of the fall season, the following Lady Pilots were honored for their efforts and achievements:
Most Valuable Player – Molly O'Grady
Most Improved Player – Morgan McFarren
Mental Attitude Award – Bethany Blodgett
Bethel Spirit Award – Whitney Neuenschwander
In addition, Molly O'Grady earned All Crossroad League honors for the third consecutive year. And Bethany Blodgett was recognized as the NCCAA National Player of the Week for the week of October 8-13.
