Men's Tennis - Wed, Oct. 24, 2012

The 2012 Bethel College men's tennis team struggled through the fall campaign as youth and inexperience contributed to a 3-11 mark. Still, they continued to work hard using every practice and every match as an opportunity to improve individually and as a team. The Pilots were successful in defeating Defiance College and Manchester College as well as the University of St. Francis in Crossroads League competition to place 8th in the league. The men then lost to top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan in the first round of the league tournament.

The typical singles line-up included Ethan Turner at number one, Rafael Barreto at number two, Trent Stout at number three, Caleb Hadden at number four, Mason Heller at number five, and Kevin Kirkland at number six. Doubles teams were made up of Turner and Barreto at number one, Stout and Hadden at number two, and Heller and Kirkland at number three.

"With the graduation of our top six players from last year, we knew this was going to be a re-building campaign for us," stated coach, John Natali. "And while wins were few, our men refused to quit and continued to work hard every day in practice to advance their skills. The up-coming spring season will provide more opportunities for growth as we look ahead. And with the addition of a few key recruits, we'll be even stronger in 2013."

At the conclusion of the fall season, the following Pilots were honored for their efforts and achievements:

Most Valuable Player – Ethan Turner

Most Improved Player – Kevin Kirkland

Mental Attitude Award – Trent Stout

Bethel Spirit Award – Caleb Hadden
