The No. 1 seeded Bethel College softball team suffered an upset to No. 4 seed Marian University on day one of the MCC Tournament from Marion, Ind.
The Pilots opened the tournament with a convincing 11-3 win over Taylor University.
Kendra Zache was in the circle and earned the win by throwing six innings while allowing nine hits and three earned runs.
Four Pilots recorded multi-hit games including Melissa Gunderson who went 4-4 and Katrina Klingberg who went 2-2 with a homerun. The Pilots belted 15 hits in total.
Game two wasn't as kind despite another solid offensive effort. Bethel managed eight more hits but only scored three runs as they fell to the Knights 6-3.
Natalie Newell took the loss as she went all six innings and allowed nine hits and six earned runs.
The Pilots will now have to win four straight games on Thursday starting at 12:00 pm to keep their hopes alive of returning to the NAIA National Championship.
