The Bethel College Track and Field teams won twelve events and hit the NAIA Outdoor National qualifying mark three times at the Taylor University Tri Meet.
Leading the way for the men was dual event winner Calen Boyd. Boyd won the triple jump at 47-2 and the long jump at 23-5. Both marks eclipsed the NAIA Outdoor National qualifying mark. Ryan Carlock also hit an NAIA National qualifying mark in the hammer at 175-4. Other first place finishes for the men included Robby Burns in the 400m hurdles at 55.76, Tanner Foust in the high jump at 6-3, and BJ VanderZwaag in the javelin at 159-8. The Pilot 4x100m relay team of Boyd, Foust, Calvin Lewis, and Ahrin Lemacks also brought home a first place finish at 42.49. The men had two runners up on the day. Robbie Rose finished second in the discus at 145-8 and Harrison Fausey also was a runner up in the 5K at 16:17.83.
Pacing the women were seven first place finishes on the day. Sarah Mott was a two event champion for the Lady Pilots. Mott won the javelin at 92-5 and finished tied for first with teammate Emilee Simcox in the high jump at 5-1. Other first place finishes were Cinnamon Green in the shot put at 40-8, Kate Carr in the pole vault at 11-0, Sam Etter in the 100m hurdles at 15.39, Kaila Stevens in the 400m at 58.19, and Arielle Byl in the 200m at 26.11. Second place finishes were turned in by Etter in the 100m at 12.67 and in the 400m hurdles at 1:06.64, Betty Graber in the 200m at 26.48, Kristen Zeilenga in the 100m hurdles at 15.96, Caitlyn Ramirez in the long jump at 14-8, and Ellen Schmeltz in the hammer at 137-0. The Lady Pilot 4x100m relay team of Stevens, Byl, Etter, and Graber also finished second at 48.75.
The Bethel College Track teams will now be off until Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 as they will next compete at the Indiana Intercollegiates in the two day meet held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
