On a cold night in Mishawaka the No. 12 (NAIA D-II) ranked Bethel College Pilots shot a sizzling 61 percent from the field and 70 percent from long range to defeat the Maple Leafs of Goshen College 105-67 Tuesday night in Crossroads League action.

The contest started out with a three-pointer by Goshen's Kyle Davis, but Bethel heated things up quickly scoring the next nine points to take a 9-3 lead.

The closest the Maple Leafs would get from that point on came at the 16:32 mark when the Leafs tailed 11-8. From that moment Bethel opened up an 11-4 run to claim a 22-12 advantage.

The Pilots would hold onto a double-digit lead for the next eight minutes until a GC basket brought them to within nine at the 7:34 mark.

Bethel would go on a 9-0 run over the course of the next three minutes to claim a 38-21 lead. BC would increase their lead to 24 points right before the half on two free throws from Matt Schauss to lead 52-28. The Pilots were led by Drew Schauss who scored 12 points at the break. For the half, BC shot 63 percent from the field on 20 of 32 shooting and a blistering 80 percent from downtown.

Goshen's Tavo Parral started off the second stanza with a three-pointer to bring GC to within 21 points until a massive 16-3 Bethel run put the Pilots up 32 at 66-34 with 15:47 left to play.

Bethel increased their lead to as many as 38 points (83-45) on a shot from Drew Schauss at the 9:23 mark.

Goshen would get no closer than 33 points the rest of the way as Bethel continued to run away with the contest.

Sophomore Zach Miller led the charge for Bethel scoring 23 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Senior Drew Schauss scored a career-high 20 points in a Pilot uniform along with seven rebounds while classmate Jordan Bowerman added 16 points. Matt Schauss had a solid showing with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists and a steal. He would have only one turnover in the game. Freshman Jordyn Coon came off the bench to score eight points and pass out four assists while Brandon Gerber hauled down a game-high nine rebounds.

The Pilots outrebounded the Maple Leafs 50-29 and held Goshen to 35 percent from the field. The Leafs were led by Tavo Parral with 12 points.
 

Bethel moves to 19-4 on the season and 10-1 in Crossroads League play while Goshen falls to 7-15 and 0-11 in the League.

Next up for BC is a trip to Upland, Ind. on Saturday, January 26 to play (RV) Taylor University who are winners of four straight contests. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
